POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Join Rise Be (JRB) is peer-led emerging adult recovery initiative that operates through Advocacy Unlimited, Inc. (AU). JRB is dedicated to making the opportunity of recovery available to all young people across the state of Connecticut. We achieve this vision through sharing our experience to influence policy and practice, demonstrating the positive outcomes of recovery, and encouraging recovery during the transition to adulthood through self-exploration and personal growth. One operation of JRB is engagement with participants of Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) Young Adult Services (YAS) and young adults statewide. The position of Full-Time Outreach Specialist will carry out the responsibilities below, and encourage young adults to become active participants in their personal growth and recovery. This position requires a person who will fully-commit to a 180-Day Introductory Period, with successful completion determined by the scheduling and implementation of no less than 1(One) Leadership Training by the end of that period and have visited all DMHAS YAS service sites.
FULL-TIME NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYMENT: 37.5 regularly scheduled hours per week, available 9-5pm Monday-Friday, $45,000 annual salary, 180-day introductory period, comprehensive benefits and paid time off. Reports To: JRB Program Manager
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Strong interest in community outreach, mobilization, and group facilitation
- Visit all 18 DMHAS YAS service sites, quarterly
- Create and disseminate monthly Newsletter
- Co-Lead YA Statewide Advisory Board meetings, monthly
- Organize and co-facilitate Young Adult Leadership Trainings, 3 times per year
- Assist DMHAS YAS OOC with enhancing the voice of YAs across the state by working directly with our OOC Liaison, including commitment to communicate regularly with DMHAS YAS OOC Liaison. Regularly attend DMHAS YAS OOC suggested trainings and events. Monthly attendance at the DMHAS YAS Point Person Meeting.
- Attend weekly JRB staff meetings and monthly cross organizational professional development
- Assist the JRB Program Manager with the organization and implementation of the YA Leadership Summit and YAS Summer Funfest
- Assist with publicity and community outreach
- Co-present at community trainings
- Represent JRB in the community tabling events
- Maintain up to date and accurate records of all work-related activities.
- Meet all internal accountability standards.
- Adhere to all contractual obligations.
- Participate in team meetings and training.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Recovery Support Specialist, preferred
High School Diploma, or equivalent
Experience with mental health and/or addiction challenges
Recovery-oriented, flexible, culturally sensitive, team player, organized, prompt leads by example
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Must have up to date motor vehicle insurance and current driver’s license, along with a reliable vehicle. It is expected that while operating a vehicle on company time, the employee will abide by all laws.
