Summary of Position:
The CT Support Group Peer Support Specialist uses their lived experience with mental health and/or substance use, in conjunction with peer support training, to support other young people in CT. The position reports to the CT Support Group Project Manager.
Specific Responsibilities:
This role seeks to support and engage peers around the state and within the team:
- Provide online and in-person peer support to Connecticut teens and young adults, which may include one-on-one or group meetings provided directly through the project;
- Support CT teens and young adults in connecting with peer support and other resources;
- Serve as a moderator of the Discord server including attending/co-facilitating monthly online drop-in
events hosted by the project; - Contribute weekly content such as blog posts, social media posts, podcasts, videos, etc.
- Participate in weekly team meetings;
- Participate in quarterly Advisory Board meetings;
- Represent the project at occasional campus/community events as part of the team;
- Engage in continuing education to grow their skills and maintain their certification.
Requirements:
- Identify as a peer to youth/young adults with lived experience with mental illness and/or substance misuse
- Trained as Recovery Support Specialist or Recovery Coach
- Strong personal interest in advocacy
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
