PEER SUPPORT SPECIALIST

Summary: 

The Peer Support Specialist holds a certificate from a certified Recovery Support program and provides skill-building, engagement, and care coordination as part of the residential programs. The main focus of the Peer Support Specialist is supporting client engagement in treatment and treatment completion with an aftercare plan.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Completed continuing education credits to maintain a Recovery Support Specialist Certificate annually.
  • Focus on client engagement and encouragement in treatment with a goal of supporting treatment completion.
  • Assist in providing each client access to necessary clinical, medical, social, educational, rehabilitative, vocational and/or other services. Provide linkages with various community resources.
  • Support client recovery by participating in multidisciplinary treatment plan review as appropriate.
  • Completes all required documentation related to treatment in accordance with established procedures including but limited to court letters, copying, faxing, scanning, collateral contact and submitting various service request applications.
  • Provides assistance during the assessment of individuals in crisis.
  • Provides education, support and consultation to individual’s families and their support system which is directed exclusively to the well being and benefit of the individual, if needed.
  • Conducts individual and group social-rehabilitation and care coordination activities
  • Maintains all necessary documentation on client activity during shift
  • In the event of staff shortage, may be required to work past scheduled hours until a relief staff can be found
  • May be required to transport clients in personal or Agency vehicle

Schedule:
Sunday – Thursday 10 AM – 6:30 PM.
*All agency staff are required to attend all mandatory department/agency meetings and trainings*

Qualifications:

  • An associate degree in health or behavioral health or completion of Recovery Support Specialist training through a certified Recovery Support program is preferred.
  • Equivalent experience in a community health center or behavioral health setting may be considered.
  • Experience working with individuals in recovery from mental illness and substance use/addiction.
  • A valid and active driver’s license is required.
