Young Adult Connection Community – Program Assistant
Reports to: Peer Initiatives, Education & Training Manager
Part-Time: 15-hour work week
NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Connecticut provides support, education, and advocacy for all people of Connecticut affected by mental illness. Established in 1984, we envision a world where people impacted by mental health challenges experience the best possible quality of life. The NAMI Connecticut Young Adult Connection Community (YACC) is a network of young people striving for success, where we promote all pathways to recovery and healthy living.
The YACC Program Assistant works closely with thePeer Initiatives, Education & Training Managerto support all activities of NAMI Connecticut’s Young Adult Connection Community, and to elevate the peer and young adult voice/perspective within Connecticut. The YACC Program Assistant supports the expansion and sustainability of NAMI Connecticut’s support networks, resources, and education programs for young people impacted by mental health challenges across Connecticut.
Duties and Responsibilities
Creates young adult-related content for posting to NAMI Connecticut’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) using Hootsuite software. Monitors social media activity on all platforms.
- Administers and monitors online platforms for meetings and chat groups (i.e., Zoom, etc.).
- In the absence of thePeer Initiatives, Education & Training Manager, supports YACC volunteer leaders in referring support group or chat participants to crisis or warmline support as needed, following NAMI Connecticut guidelines and procedures.
- Responds to NAMI Connecticut Helpline calls from young adults looking for information about programs and resources.
- Becomes trained as a NAMI Connecticut YACC support group facilitator and QPR suicide prevention training. Fills in as young adult meeting or support group facilitator or co-facilitator as needed.
- Assists with YACC trainings, events, and support groups, including scheduling and registration.
- Assists in the development and delivery of NAMI’s Ending the Silence program.
- High School diploma, GED or higher.
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Social marketing knowledge, including Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
- Computer skills/keyboarding
- Effective communication skills.
- Peer Recovery Specialist certification a plus, or willing to be trained
