Meet the Presenter: Alvin Fryxell is a person in long-term recovery from opioid addiction.  Finding his pathway through addiction using medication assisted treatment, Alvin successfully tapered off of methadone and is now the Clients Rights Officer (CRO) for the Root Center for Advanced Recovery (RCAR).  Alvin’s pathway to recovery includes completing the Connecticut Community of Addiction Recovery’s Recovery Coach Academy in 2010 and his associates degree in drug and alcohol recovery counseling in 2011 from Manchester Community College.

Alvin has worked for RCAR since 2013 and reviews more than 150 grievances annually as the CRO.  Alvin has shared his story across Connecticut, and has participated in opioid panels with the Commissioner of the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services on several occasions.

Recovery has allowed Alvin to show up in life beyond shame. As a father of three young sons, Alvin can be found on the Windsor soccer fields on Saturday mornings and is an avid fan of the New York Mets.
